Things You May Not Know About Westin

Our sweet little boy has entered into what I am referring to as “The Terrible Twelve’s”. If you think the terrible two’s are bad…just you wait!  It’s not that he is hateful, unpleasant to be around or making bad choices.  It’s just that his brain has somehow detached from any sort of common sense that it once had familiarity with.  I’m positive when the phrase, “lose your head if it wasn’t attached” was coined by a mother of a 12 year old boy.

In honor of James Westin, I am bringing you Top TWELVE Tuesday this week. Here are 12 things you may not know about our son.

12.   Westin was our sweet ring bearer in our wedding. He was 3 months shy of his 2nd birthday when we wed.

11.    He would rather fish or hunt than do anything else on the planet.

10. He was named James Westin Matejka so that he would have the initials to match those of his Ole Dad. (Justin Wade)

9.  He broke his leg on the trampoline with his older sister when he was 2. He didn’t have crutches. The doctor just said he could crawl around with the bright orange cast on his leg. (Broke my heart.)

8.  If that kid gets upset, really upset, he will cry. The cry moves into a cough that will soon ignite a violent hurl. He coughs ‘til he vomits.  So, take my word…you don’t want to upset him.

7. He went through a tough time in his speech development.  All the “F’s” came out as “S’s”.  Flip flops were slip slops.  He would come to tell me that he needed his face and fingers washed, but it was, “I need to wash my singers and my sace.”

6. Dimples. Have my heart!

5. He and I have an arrangement for the future. When he is famous (the means have yet to be determined) I will have my own living quarters on his estate and I will do his laundry everyday.

4. One time when he was 3 or 4, the whole family bowed to pray before dinner and Westin began, “I pledge allegiance, to the flag…”

3.  When he was delivered, the small lady obstetrician almost dropped him. He was a 10 pounder.

2. On spring break when Westin was 3 I noticed one eye pointing inward toward his nose.  After doctor visits, we figured out the he is far sighted. That one eye was crossing because he was straining so hard to see things up close. There were a few months when he wore band aide-like eye patches. (Heart wrenching) Let me just say that if you have never seen your 3 year old wearing an eye patch… that’s a tear jerker. Bless his heart.  The patch was eventually replaced with glasses that have managed to become part of who he is. And he can actually see farther and clearer than any other human I know. (This helps with all that hunting business)

1. James Westin has a heart of gold. He is so gentle and caring with all people. He loves to laugh and do anything outdoors. He has energy that I only dream of keeping up with.  He is the most inquisitive person I know and I am convinced he is smarter than us all because of it.  He is not the one who stands out in a crowd. He is more an observer. He is always watching the world around him; God’s incredible creation, the way people interact with one another, the actions and reactions of everyone in his presence. This big eyed interested personality of his allows him to seek God on a level I may never understand. He is always asking questions and learning new things to grow his faith. I am so proud of the young man he has become and heck…if I have a little of the terrible twelve’s to deal with from such generous, kind, loving, presumptuous guy then I’ll take it…FROM THIS SIDE OF THIRTY.
